LUBBOCK, Texas – Abuelo’s Mexican restaurant’s recent grand opening in west Wichita raised $6,500 to benefit Victory in the Valley, a non-profit organization founded in 1983 by cancer survivor Lois Thomi after her successful treatment of an aggressive form of breast cancer. The organization has now grown to become a state-wide comprehensive cancer support program by adding needed service programs to benefit cancer patients and their families.
The new Abuelo’s restaurant, located at 452 South Ridge Road, raised funds through proceeds from sales during the restaurant’s pre-opening training services, as well as through donations from employees and guests.
“We raised a significant amount of money for a very deserving charity and had a lot of fun in the process,” said Chuck Ouellette, general manager of Abuelo’s West Wichita restaurant. “The local community showed wonderful support for Victory in the Valley, which was great. We are thrilled to be able to benefit an outstanding organization that does such great work for cancer patients and their families.”
Abuelo’s also has a location in east Wichita n the Waterfront at 1413 N. Waterfront Parkway. The new west Wichita restaurant opened on May 26, 2015.
